Is Colin Powell supporting Barrack Obama really a big deal?
It really shouldn’t be a surprise. News of Powell supporting Obama has been rumored for months. Despite Powell being part of the bush administration and owing his credentials and popularity to several Republican Presidents including Ronald Reagan who made Powell a four star general, Powell really is a liberal.
When it looked like Powell might run for president a few years ago he hid every view he had including what party he was. He knew that revealing his personal political beliefs would really damage his high favorability ratings.
Powell said his endorsing Obama was not about race and though I don’t know if I believe that it might make sense in one sense. If it’s not about race it’s about Powell finally acknowledging he’s a liberal and he naturally endorses the liberal candidate.
Why else would Powell say he would have a problem with two more Republican appointments to the Supreme court? Why would he say that unless he’s a liberal democrat?
So big deal, Powell likes Obama.

It’s a big deal because it shows that Powell, who is not a liberal democrat but is a very trusted person in foreign policy, believes that McCain’s temper can’t be trusted and that Obama is indeed qualified enough to lead our country. His words, not mine.
It’s a big deal because he is so conservative. It’s a big deal because he has been a friend of McCain’s for years. It’s a big deal because his reasoning, if you caught the whole interview, was so succinct I wish I could have verbalized it. It is a bid deal because dems like me look up to conservs like him. He’s pwerfully wise, and it will influence others.
You’re right, Colin Powell’s a whacky liberal. I heard he pals around with terrorists, too.
I think he’s a creditable person. He stands for what he believes and refuses to be held to values held by his party if he doesn’t think those values true. I guess it makes him a rare person in the political field where politicians change their opinion in order to gain a few points on the scale.
